Governor Abdullahi sule of Nasarawa state has tasked traditional rulers in the state to support his Administrations commitments on the fight against corona virus. The Governor who made the call during the expanded council of chiefs meeting at conference hall of the ministry for local government and chieftaincy Affairs Lafia. According to a statement signed by the public Relations officer (PRO) of the ministry Ibrahim Adamu Shigabarta quoted Governor Abdullahi sule sd underscoring the roles of traditional institutions in the development of any society. Represented by the state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy Affairs, Yusif Aliyu Turaki, Governor sule said government alone cannot reach all the books and crannies of the state, hence the need for traditional rulers to ensure the success of the fight against covid19 in the state
He urged them to monitor the movement of the people into their domains particularly people who returned from the state with high cases of covid19 to report such persons to the state task force on covid19 for isolation. The further urged the royal fathers to ensure that peace prevails in their communities as well as to find ways of combating kidnapping and other crimes in the state. Responding, Emir of Lafia and chairman Nasarawa state council of chiefs, Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad 1 (rtd) appealed to the state government to empower them towards carrying their duties effectively and assured government of their unflinching support to contain the spread of covid19 in the state as social distancing were observed during the meeting. Meanwhile the state council of chiefs has resolved to compliment government efforts in the fight against the spread of corona virus through survellence of influx of people into the state especially those from high risk states across the country as well as making a case for decisive action to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities. They however appealed to government to undertake proper training of local vigilantes to enable them work closely with the taskforce in various local government Areas to enhance rapid response
.The communique also confirmed that joint meeting of all Emirs and chiefs with fulani Ardos across the state to discuss issues concerning criminal activities.
