February 2019 Election: Journalists Advocate For Credible Polls.
This was part of their resolutions at the end of a one day conflict sensitive reporting workshop, facilitated by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, supported by the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and NOA at the Ta’al conference Hotel, Lafia.
The workshop participants who opined that election which is a democratic process of choosing leaders does not warrant a do or die affairs, agreed to work with relevant authorities to ensure that the country undergo a free, fair and peaceful election.
In the Communique, the journalists who promised to discharge their responsibilities without negative consequences before, during and after the election, called on the necessary agencies in the electoral process to imbibe the spirit of accountability, transparency, honesty and patriotism.
The journalists who described hate speech as a dangerous phenomenon that is capable of causing mistrust suspicion as well as violence, advised Nigerians, especially politicians to be mindful of their use of language and comments during their campaigns.
The communique whose frowned against thuggery and instigators of violence, called on Party leaders, Candidates and party loyalists to avoid acts capable of causing crises during the coming elections.
