Former Minister of Information and Communication and The Governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Nasarawa state, Mr. Labaran Maku has promised the People of Nasarawa State of a new commercial city in Karu near the federal Capital Territory.
Maku made the promise on Thursday during a media chart organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel, in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS), Nigeria Television Authority and Precious FM Lafia.
According to him, due to the proximity of the state to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), there is the need to create an enabling environment for investors, especially in the nearby cities to Abuja, karu in particular.
“If I am elected, I will build five star hotel, modern stadium of international standard, construct network of roads, standard hospital, standard schools, I will also put the international market to use and build other markets for traders in different products like that of Onitsha market and other notable markets in the country, I will make sure goods found in Onitsha, Lagos and other commercial cities are brought and sold here at subsidize rate to reduce the burden on the people,”
Maku also assured that his proposed administration will establish mining companies so as to partner with the Federal Government in the bid to harness the abundant mineral resources in the state.
According to him he will lobby on the federal government to reason and hand off the control of mineral resources that are found in states, adding that it will be appropriate for states to control their resources and contribute certain percentages that accrue to them from such mineral deposits to the federal government.
He reiterated his desire to give security a top priority because of the fact that without security his plans to develop the state may not be achieved.
