We Have No Ghost Workers In Nasarawa, Says Commissioner Osegba

Nasarawa State Government on Friday said there are still ghost workers in the 13 Local Government Councils of the state.
The Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Haruna Osegba, made this disclosure during the Local Government Councils Joint Account (JAAC) meeting in Lafia, the state Capital.
According to him, the ministry have discovered that there are people who have retired from the Local Government service and are currently collecting pension but are still appearing in payment vouchers.
“There are names of people who have left the service either through retirement, death, resignation or transfer of service that are still appearing in the PV of some Councils, over 4, 000 persons have left the service of the Local Government Education and Health departments alone since 2011, yet the wage bill still remain N2. 1 billion,”
According to him Councils workers will be paid 100 percent for the month of January, adding that management of the various Councils have to submit authentic PV and bank details before their workers would be allowed to access their money.
The Commissioner who stated that his ministry will investigate the shape practices going on at the third tier of government, threatened that anyone found to be involved in such act would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Chairman, Lafia Local Government Council, Aminu Maiphata who double as the Chairman Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), assured that authorities of the Councils will corporate with the ministry to address the trend.
He summited that anyone found to be responsible in the illegality should be sanctioned to serve as deterrent to those who may want to do so in the future.
