ELECTION POSTPONEMENT: A DETHRONEMENT OF THE PEOPLE’S WILL, SAYS PDP
By Yiljap Abraham
The Plateau PDP State Campaign Council views the postponement of the national election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a clear admission by the APC federal government of the overwhelming popularity of the PDP which was poised to win by the popular will of the people. APC is literally scared of a PDP victory – and will do everything to delay it. But it cannot derail it.
Chairman of the Council Hon. Damishi T. Sango says it was obvious to every discerning mind that Nigerians were determined to cast their ballot in this day to oust a grossly unpopular and glaringly incompetent APC – led government.
The postponement, just six hours to the official opening of polls, amounts also to the unveiling of the pretentious and sanctimonious attitude of a government that finds it convenient to continuously subvert the will of the people who want to live in freedom and dignity.
Hon Sango asks:
“Who does not know that INEC’s action was the voice of Jacob but the hand of Esau? That INEC was under external pressure to play a script to favour the ruling party was obvious to everyone. Did not the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice recently write to INEC to postpone the election in Zamfara? Is he a court of law?”
The Plateau PDP State Campaign Council therefore rejoices with the PDP Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for standing strong in the face of an intimidating federal might, saying the battle for the presidency is as good as already won – and no number of postponements can stifle the people’s determination to free themselves from an oppressive and non-performing government.
The Council salutes the steadfastness and resilience of the people of Plateau in particular and Nigeria in general in preparing for the election.
It appeals to them to sustain their enthusiasm and be more determined in their preparations to take back their destiny with dignity come February 23rd and March 9th, 2019.
Council appreciates the sacrifices and risks taken by the party’s leadership and membership at all levels in mobilising the people for the now postponed election.
It appeals to them to sustain and even improve on their efforts for the victory ahead.
