PYN Kicks Against Unduely Delay In The Declaration Of February 2019 NASS Results

By Moses Gbande
The President of the Plateau Youths for Conscience, PYN, Bulus Zet has expressed worries over the unduely delay in the release of results of Plateau North senatorial elections four days after Elections were concluded.
Bulus Zet in a press conference in Jos Thursday said It become imperative for them to address press due to the rising tension in Jos and surrounding local governments due to the continuous delay on the part of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in releasing the results of the just concluded elections for Plateau North senatorial seat.
‘The delay, as most of you must have noticed is generating unnecessary tension and creating avenues for hoodlums, mischief makers and opposition elements in the state to ply their trade by making all sorts of conjectures to whip up sentiments and to portray the government and people of Plateau state in bad light.
“We as youths of conscience cannot stand by and allow the situation degenerate further because Plateau Stte belongs to all of us. We make this intervention with the firm belief that it is in the best interest of all parties in Plateau State and for democracy and rule of law to thrive.
“Observations:
The current suspense and tension are unnecessary due to the following reasons:
”The processes of voting which include accreditation of voters, casting of ballot, collation, sorting of ballot and counting of ballot papers against each candidate and party have since been concluded in all the six local governments that make up the Plateau North Senatorial District.
“We also note that there were no security issues before, during and after the conduct of elections as everywhere has been calm and peaceful.
“We also note that a winner had clearly emerged from the exercise based on the total number of votes collated and counted and is only awaiting a formal declaration by the electoral umpire.
“We note that further delay in announcing the results would send a wrong signal to populace.
We note the unpatriotic and highly inciting comments by some media houses with affiliations to chieftains of the opposition parties.
‘Our Demands:
In view of these clear and incontrovertible facts, we therefore wish to make the following pronouncements:
“That the INEC should immediately release the results of the Plateau north senatorial zone which has clearly been won by the All Progressives Congress, APC, senatorial candidate, chief Rufus Bature.
“We commend the security agencies in the state for maintaining peace in the state and call on them to continue to ensure there is no breakdown of law and order.
“We call on the PDP in the state to desist from making baseless and mischievous, and inciting allegations and to, in the spirit of sportsmanship concede the victory to the winner of the elections, Chief Rufus Bature.
4. We call on the PDP senatorial candidate, ID Gyang to pick his phone and in reflection of his good moral upbringing and brotherliness, call to congratulate his brother, Chief Bature who has clearly defeated him in the race.
“We call on the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC to sanction the Jay FM Radio Station for the inciting comments and programmes thye have been airing on the matter.
“We commend Governor Simon Lalong for allowing the democratic process take course on the Plateau and not interfering in any way though his political party, the APC, is involved in the race. He has indeed shown that he is a true leader that Plateau deserves.
