Strike: Untill Govt. Meets Our Demands, We won’t Call Off Strike, Union Leaders Of Nasarawa Owned Higher Institutions Insist.

The meeting between representatives of both the Nasarawa state Government and the state owned tertiary institutions to find lasting solutions to the ongoing strike embarked upon by Union leaders of government owned tartiary instituions to place home some demands ended in deadlock.
The meeting which took place at the conference hall of the Ministry of Higher Education on Friday, was held behind close doors.
Chairman of the state Joint Union of Tertiary institutions, Paul Useni however toled Journalists shortly after the meeting, that they were not able to reach any concensus, as the Union insist, that except the state Government meet the demands of its members, the Union will not suspend its ongoing strike.
On his part, the Commissioner of Higher Education, Dr. Clement Ahar Uhembe who disclosed that the meeting was called to interfaced with representatives of the striking Union to suspend their strike due to the damage the strike has caused students of the affected tertiary institutions, said the state government has since entered into the implementation of the demands of the striking workers.
The Commissioner who explained that the outgoing administration of the state under the leadership of Umaru Tanko Almakura has been sensitive to education at all levels, assured that the state government will continue to do her best in the sector.
When contacted, Head of the state Civil Service, Nicholas Abari Aboki who described the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions as unfortunate, appealed to the Union leaders to shift ground and call off the strike, for the fact that the state is now in a transition process.
It would be recalled that the Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions in the state has being on strike since February 12, 2019 following the state government inability to meet their demands which includes, promotion, selective implementation of the white paper on investigative panel on the College of Education Akwanga, College of Agriculture Lafia and the state Polytechnic also in Lafia, among other demands.
