Medical Doctors In Nasarawa Begins warning Strike

The Nasarawa State Chapter of Nigeria Medical Association said Doctors in the state owned Hospitals will commerce a three days warning strike as from mid night on Sunday April 31, 2019.
The Association through its Chairman Dr. Bulus Umaru made the disclosure during a Media briefing on Friday in Lafia, the State Capital.
Dr. Umara stated that members of the Association took the decision to embark on the warning strike due to the state government insensitivity to the plight of Professional Doctors in the service of the state government.
According to him, leadership of the Association has made frantic efforts to ensure that the state government addresses the three demands of the Doctors has since failed to yield positive results.
The demands, according to the Chairman are, high taxation, none implementation of financial benefits attach to promotion and government failure to pay 22 Months arrears of corrected Salary Structure, amounting to over #400Million.
Dr. Umaru who explained further that only Doctors in Government Hospitals across the state are expected to participate in the proposed warning strike, assured that on expiration of the strike the Association will embark on indefinite strike action on yet to announced date, if the state government fails to use the window period to meet their demands.
Dr. Umaru who commended the out going administration of the state for its effort in infrastructural development, however, scored the administration low in the area of workers welfare.
When contacted, the Commissioner in charge of the state Ministry of Health Mrs Roseline Kela who said the state Government is doing its best possible to address the issues raised by NMA, attributed the delay to the process of the 2019 general elections.
She appealed to the Doctors to shelve their planned strike and cooperate with Government for a peaceful negotiation.
