The Plateau Publishers
Association (PPA) has elected new officials to run the affairs of its Union within the next three years.
In the election conducted under the supervision of the Chairman of the Nigera Union of Journalists Plateau state council Mr Paul Jatau, A Jos Based Publisher of Daily Agenda Newspaper and Apex Magazine, Mr. Nash Hosea Nongdip emerged Chairman of the Association.
Mr. Nash Hosea Vongdip scored 14 votes to beat his close contestant , Mr. Shabul Mazadu, the publisher of The Beacon newspaper who scored 10 votes.
Others who were returned unopposed by affirmation votes are Mr James Nanfa Daman PRO, Mr Yakubu Ajala-
Social/Welfare, Sunday Taiwo- Auditor.
While the position is Assistant Secretary, went to Miss Juliana Uzoka, Secretary Ogak Walbe, Treasurer Mrs Helen Bok, Vice Chairman Mr Daniel Bok, were all sworn in as they took oath of office to run the affairs of the PPA for 3 years.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Vongdip expressed confidence in his victory promised to be transparent leadership and vowed not to discriminate against any member “now it is time to build the union to achieve tremendous success”.
He solicits for the cooperation of the union members to join hands with him to ensure transparency and committed leadership that can make them promote the state and democracy.
Vongdip thanked members for finding him worthy to contribute to the development of the association as he promised accountability, transparency in the affairs of the PPA.
The NUJ, Plateau State council chairman, Mr Paul Jatau congratulated the newly elected officials of PPA for the display of maturity and conducting a hitch free election.
Jatau tasked the association to work towards the welfare of their members by ensuring that they are more united focus as employers of labour and to treat their Reporters with respect.
He promised to offer full support to the new exco in promoting the association to achieve betterment of the new union.
Former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Plateau state council, Katdapba Gobum eulogies the PPA for coming out of their feud to become one, and called on the new exco to give priority to the welfare of their employees and instruct them to do the right thing.
According to him, “the current challenges of poverty ravaging the country ,I appeal that you should take the issue of salary payment seriously so as to reduce the difficulty been experienced by your members”
Mr Shabul Mazadu also congratulates those who emerged to run the union and he called on all his supporters to put aside their differences and work to improve the welfare of Association.
Mazadu warned that no more factional body we are all one now, we shouldn’t get offended but give Nash Vondip the maximum cooperation to uplift the association.
The election was held at Bishop court on Sunday evening under the supervision of the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Mr Paul Jatau, Former NUJ Chairman, Mr Katdaba Gobum, Former Permanent secretary Ministry of Finance, Isaac Wadak, former Chairman Correspondent Chapel, Mr Yemi Kosoko ,security personnel and media representatives in Jos.
