The Auyhority of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau says it is deeply worried over the renewed security challenges confronting the locality, most especially attacks on farmers by suspected Fulani Herdsmen.

The Management Committee Chairman of the Council, Hon. Emmanuel Danboyi Jugul told our Correspondent that the Council is taking decisive  measures to ensure that such ugly trend is nipped to the bud.

Accordng to him, some of the measure so far taken was to hold regular meetings with Heads of the Fulanis and the Beroms communities and the security chiefs to discuss and find a lasting solution to the problems.

He reveals that,  the bad moments facing the council is the circumstances that led to the killing of three and arresting  of 14 locals by the Soldiers and branding them as ”Armed Robbers”.

“You would recall that of recent time, security operatives went in air the they arrested 14 youths youths from Riyom who are armed robbers, but if you remember too, I debunked it because I am in the picture of what really happened.

” Some two boys were on a motorcycle and near in Kwi, some people stopped them  and attacked them, one was killed and the other excaped. When the other one that escaped alerted the  villagers  some people came, Soldiers also came there, and when they came, instead of them to talk to the boys and family and out what happened the Soldiers started shooting and kiled 3 people and arrested 14, calling them armed robbers.

“And to be candid to you, they are not robbers. That’s is why we call for an emergency security meeting to seat with the security heads and traditional leaders to discuss and find out what are the real problems and find solutions.

‘We are also concerned because these things are happening at the time raining season has just set in, the these meetings are efforts toward ensuring that the we have peace in our communities, and we want the Fulanis and the Beroms to learn how to live in peace with one another.

In the meantime, Secretary of the Riyom Local Government  council who briefed Journalists on the out come of the security meeting says far reaching measures were reached on how to curtail attacks in the area,

According to him, the council was worried over the attacks within the area and decided to summons the meeting so as to talk to the Fulani and the Berom Natives on the need to be peaceful.

“We also appealed to the Kwi communities to remain calm over the killing and arrest of their love ones and wait for the outcome of the investigation being carried out by the security agencies.
