Chieftaincy Tussle Tears Nasarawa Community Apart
By Abdullahi Shuaibu, Lafia
A lingering chieftaincy tussle may tear Gidan Kura community, Kafin
Shanu district of Karshi development Area in Karu Local Government
Area of Nasarawa State following the failure of District Head of the
Area, Alhaji Muhammad Jibrin to appoint the new village head of the
community.
Our correspondent who conducted an investigation in the area reports
that following the death of the former village head of the area five
years ago, the seven ruling houses in Gidan Kura have declared their
intention to contest for the position, but the district head of the
area, Alhaji Muhammad Jibrin two weeks ago intimated the Mai Angwa
(ward head) of the area to prepare for the selection of the new
village head of Gidan Kura, but when they met on Sunday 30th June,
2019, all the six ruling houses agreed that they were ready for the
selection of new village head except one Na’allah who said they were
not ready, but instead of the district head of Kafin Shanu to follow
the view of the majority and appoint to them a new village head, he
refused and accepted the view of a minority by postponing the
selection for the reason best known to him.
A resident of the area who don’t want his name in print told our
correspondent that the district head postponed the selection because
one Na’allah from one of the ruling houses sold his cow and gave the
village head the money, hence the postponement of the selection of a
new village head, the allegation in which the district head of Kafin
Shanu, Alhaji Muhammad Jibrin has since denied and challenged this
reporter to name the person who claimed that he received money from
Na’allah.
It was also gathered that similar scenario occurred during the reign
of lat Emir of Karshi, Late Alhaji Muhammad Bako II when he turned
down, the minority view and appointed he Alhaji Muhammad Jibrin as
district head of Kafin Shanu. “I want the district head of Kafin Shanu
to use the same method adopted by the Late Emir of Karshi, Alhaji
Muhammadu bako II who appointed him despite a minority view, by
accepting a popular view by appointing a new village head of Gidan
Kura”.
He therefore called on the state Governor, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule,
Ministry of Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs and the chairman of
Karu local government to look into the matter in order to avert the
breakdown a law and order in the area.
When contacted on phone, the district head of Kafin Shanu, Alhaji
Muhammad Jibrin who denied collecting money from anybody also said he
want the people of Gidan Kura to live in peace to enable him appoint a
new village head for them and urged well meaning people to join him in
ensuring peace not only in the area but in the state and the country.
