By Emmanuel Awari-Jalingo

The Taraba House of Assembly on Wednesday passed the 2020 appropriation bill of N215.8 billion into law.

Governor Darius Ishaku had, on December 19, submitted a proposal of N213.6 billion for the 2020 fiscal year to the State Assembly for consideration. The lawmakers jerked the budget to N215.8 billion, an increase of over N2 billion.

On the issue of new minimum wage, he said that the state government is doing everything possible to effect the wage.

” Budget is an estimate or a projection for the year and not that the money is on ground”.

He pointed out that governments are allowed to borrow monies from banks or any financial institutions when the need arises

” Borrowing is just a statement, it is not compulsory for a state to borrow. Taraba state is least in borrowing compare to other states”

Speaker Joseph Albasu Kunini explained that the lawmakers considered the increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) in the country to jerk up the budget.

He disclosed that the budget is realistic, adding that it is for the development of the state.
