Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has disclosed that the state is blessed with a good climate, semi temperet and relief vegetation on the Mambilla plateau and tropical climate in the low land areas and a home to two Days, the Kashimbilla and Mambilla Hydro project whose construction is to commence soon.
The Governor stated this at the opening of a Workshop on: (Peaceful co – existence between crop farmers and herders in Taraba State).
The Governor represented by the Commissioner Ministry of Agriculture, David Ishaya Kassa said :
“Taraba State has estimated 19 Million heads of cattle. It is a home to 5 Million heads of cattle, 3.5 Million goats, 2.9 Million sheep just to mention but few. The improvement in this sector will turn around the social and economic index of the state for the better”
“The purpose of gathering here today is as a result of inability to embrace technology in both crop and animal Agriculture. We must put aside the old ways and embrace the new technological advancement in Agriculture and livestock production to achieve sustainable peace that we so much desired and cherish for growth and development”
He called on crop Farmers and Herders in the state to be law abiding and always work within the ambit of the law to achieve Justice. He enjoin all participants to pay attention to the resource persons and make use of the knowledge acquired in the in dispensation of Justice and fair play in their communities.
“We pray that the coming raining season will be peaceful to yield bumper harvest to our farmers and adequate feed for our livestock”
Earlier, the Permanent Sectary of the Ministry, Bujuje Danjuma said the pursuit of peace is an inevitable Challenge the world over.
” We will continue to do our best in achieving peace. We must imbibe the spirit of give and take among individuals and Communities to achieve lasting and sustainable peace”
He said the Workshop is timely and necessary, considering the fact that Taraba State has had its own share and experience of Farmers and Herders clashes, leading to wanton destruction of lives and Properties over the years leading to colossal economic losses.
According to him, the roles of Traditional and Religious leaders, Security agencies, Civil society organizations and other stakeholders in fostering peace cannot be over emphasis, adding that he is overwhelmed by the turnout for the the sake of proffering solutions to the menace of these hostilities.
