The Commissioner Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, Mrs. Hauwa Kwenna has disclosed that Women makes the world to go round and without women, there is nothing to live for in life.
The Commissioner who disclosed this during the 2020 International women’s day in Jalingo, said her ministry remain fulfilled in her responsibility of attending to the welfare of women and children. Ministry
“Everything a man does in life is to please a woman and her children, that is why on this day every year we mark the International women’s day to celebrate your imputs in life”
The commissioner who was represented by the permanent secretary, Samuel Lauya itemize the objectives of the Day to include: To celebrate the struggle for women’s rights in the economic, social, political and cultural domain, reaffirm women’s solidarity in the struggle for peace and to showcase women achievements.
“This shows that Women are a powerful force in our society and as Such the government and people must according them the rightful recognition” – she said.
” When you give a woman seeds, she gives you Children, give them ingredients and they will you a meal and give them a house and they will give you a home. No nation, government or faith can do without a woman” – she added.
She disclosed that Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku have been giving priority to women and youth event where over Two Thousand Women are empowered in skills acquisition and over Two Thousand Women have been employed in the Rescue Teachers program and in the state Civil Service.
” As the theme of 2020 International women’s day tagged: I am Gender Equality, realizing women’s rights, government is calling on all women to work as a team to better the lots of women in all sectors. Therefore Women are hereby charge to protect their homes, children and environment against Child trafficking, tape, defilement and laziness”
She described women as care givers as well as home builders and urged them to open their eyes more as the evil days against strangers and poor Children upbringing so as to build a Taraba that they can all be proud of.
She called on women to give the present administration of Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku the necessary support to move the state forward.
In her remarks, the State President, National Council of Women Societies, NCWS, Mrs. Punarimam Atenji said the day is a global Day celebrating the social, Economic, Cultural and Political achievements of Women.
“The Day also marks a call to parity. What that looks like, globally at a local level, International women’s day is about unity, celebration, advocacy and action”
She disclose that the international women’s day was first celebrated by the United Nations in 1975 and commence the adoption of annual themes which include: 1996- celebrating the past, planning for the feature, 1997- Women at peace table, 1998- Women and human rights and 1999- World free of violence against women and it continues each year till date.
According to her, the 2020 International women’s day concides with the 25th anniversary of the Beijing declaration, adding that the Day is a global web rich and diverse activities connecting Women from around the world ranging from political rallies, Businesses, Conferences, Government activities and networking events through local Women.

She appreciated the contribution of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development for both financial and moral support for the successful hosting of the event.
Similarly, the Taraba Water and Sewerage Corporation TAWASCO, have joined Women in the state to celebrate the Day.
Addressing Women at the Corporation’s office, the General Manager, Engr. Musa Siam, congratulated Women for risen to this level.
” If you Educate a woman, you Educate a Nation. Women constitutes a large population and determine who becomes what or where in the society”
” Women have a lot to do in the society, the way we train our children would go a long way in the society” – he said.
He said the role Women played in moving the society forward cannot be forgotten easly.
” Women can do even more than men, for they play vital role in the Water sector especially with customers of this corporation, they care, accountable, accommodating and more”
“TAWASCO have two Women as District Managers and they are doing well. They have attracted more customers to the company. We gave them a trial and they are doing well” – he added.
Also speaking, the District Manager in charge of Lamorde, Engr. Rikweka’a Riki said Women are Working in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector and that they are doing well like the men.
” As a District Manager, I organize my staff and let them know that the work that men do, Women can also do, even better”
Engr. Riki who is also the Secretary, Women professionals in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene said Women plays important role in the society both at home and working places.
