University Education has been described as normal and exciting experience, but with a high degree of social responsibility upon students as they pursuit their studies.
The Vice Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Professor D.A. Ameh, stated this at the 2019/2020, 6th Matriculation ceremony of undergraduate students (ABU Zaria), College of Education Zing, Campus.
The Vice Chancellor who was represented by the Dean, Faculty of Education, Professor Yahaya Kajuru, said:
” Your main purpose of coming to the University is to aquire knowledge and skills to prepare you for a useful life and become good citizens.
” I want to congratulate you, your parents and guardians for being amongst the few that successfully gaining admission into the University, from the teaming number of candidates that applied. It is indeed rare opportunity of having access to University Education.
According to him, Matriculation ceremony is always a time for joy for those who successfully pass through the screening procedure of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.
“The Matriculation oath which has just been conducted today is a ceremony that formally initiates you into the body of the University Community. By this process you have been formally accepted into the University body and you are now to be guided by all the University rules and regulations.
He advised the Matriculating students to shun away from vices such as Cultism, Examination Malpractice, Drug abuse, indecent dressing and all forms of antisocial behavior.
“We want to produce students who have contemplative and highly creative minds, in order to prepare you for proper engagement with the fast moving and changing coplex world. We are anxious to produce students with independent, critical, creative and highly innovative minds.
“We hope that in coming years, we would also gather at the Mamman Kontagora square, main campus to celebrate your graduation from the University.
He disclosed that to achieve these noble objectives, peace, stability and conducive environment is required.
Earlier in his remarks, the Provost College of Education Zing, Mike Dio Jen, appreciated the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria for partnering with the College in ensuring the dream come reality.
” Let me appeal to you to be law abiding and always respect constituted authorities. Character is also a requisite for graduation.
” ABU Zaria is not a University you joke with, you should consider yourselves as students in the main campus”.
He urged them to add to their knowledge so as to worthy to graduate successfully.
“Let me encourage you to face your studies with rapt attention so that the expenses incurred by your parents would be fully justified.
“I also encourage you to work harder and produce results worth of appreciation. – he added.
He call on the University to expedite action on the process of accreditation of the remaining five Degree programs approved for the College.
“The first set of these programs have completed their studies from the college, but their results cannot be presented to the university Senate for graduation. This situation is capable of reducing the morale of intending students.
He urged them to desist from acts such as Cultism, Drug abuse, indecent dressing and others that could negatively affect their academic pursuit.
“I wish to emphasize here too that this College like her mentor ABU, has zero tolerance to examination Malpractice.
He urged them to carefully use the College facilities particularly the Library.
“Do not vandalize seats, Mutilate library books, destroy electrical fittings or any public facilities” – he said.
“I encourage you to struggle hard to become greater citizen tomorrow who will positively influence the Nigeria society.
He appreciated ABU Zaria for finding College of Education Zing worthy for running of it’s programs.
