TARABA STATE GOVERNMENT MOUNTS BORDER CHECKS OVER CORONA

The Taraba Government in its efforts to ensure safety of people, on Monday announced that it has intensified safety measures at major border crossing the republic of Cameroon to check the possible spread of COVID-19 in the State.

Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Danjuma Adamu disclosed this at a media briefing in Jalingo.

Adamu said the measure became necessary following the discovery of new cases of COVID-19 in the country and the need to take proactive measures to prevent the spread of the virus in the State.

According to him, government has directed that public and private schools in the State should shut down by Tuesday March 24.

He explained that the ministry of health had procured hand sanitizers to be placed at strategic locations in the State for use by members of the public.

The information Commissioner advised members of the public to prioritise personal hygiene as a measure to prevent the spread of the virus.

Gov Darius Ishaku had on Saturday announced a ban on social gathering of more than 20 persons.

In a similar development, Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has approved the setting up of Technical Committee on COVID – 19.

In a press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku, Hassan Mijinyawa said the committee is expected to sensitize people across the state.

They are: Dr. Innocent Vakkai, Commissioner of Health as Chairman. Members of the Committee include, Commissioner of Information and Re- orientation, Danjuma Adamu, Commissioner of Urban Development, Saleh Sa’ ad, Permanent Sectary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Ebenezer Koku, Director public health Dr. Abe Agbu, Chief Medical Director and Taraba State Specialist Hospital, Dr. Alex Maiangwa. Others are Chief Medical Director, Federal Medical Center Jalingo, Dr. Attah Dangana, Executive Secretary, State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Aminu Hassan and State Coordinator, World Health Organization, Umar Faruk while Columbus Garba would serve as Secretary.

The release further stated that the Innauguration/ Stakeholders meeting of the committee is sheduled to take place on Thursday 26th March 2020 at Shield Hotel by Ten in the morning.
