The Taraba State Committee on Covid-19 has discharged about 124 persons who were quarantined at the NYSC Orientation Camp isolation centre, sibre.
This was disclosed by the Task Force Chairman who is also the state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Innocent Vakkai on Sunday while briefing journalists on the release of the persons whom he said have been tested negative.
According to him, those released, mostly women and children, are among the 130 travelers who were intercepted by security personnel at the State’s borders penultimate week.
He said, their release followed after been quarantined at the isolation centre for the mandatory fourteen days period as directed by the state government.
The Chairman explained that out of the 130 travellers quarantined, six had tested positive and only one has shown serious symptoms and were moved to the Taraba state Specialist Hospital for treatment.
Vakkai added that there were two additional confirmed positive cases from Tella, Gassol LGA and Lau LGA of the state who where also taken to the same Specialist in Jalingo for treatment.
Vakkai said among those discharged, nine persons are indigenes of Bauchi state while the rest are citizens of Taraba who are not residents in the state.
He revealed that those who came from no high risk areas and tested negative were allowed to proceed with their journey, while those who came from a high risk states were quarantined for fourteen days, even after been tested negative.
The statistics of some of the discharged persons, according to their states or local government areas of origin, was given as: Lau: four, Karim-Lamido: five, Ardo-Kola: three, Bali: 19, Wukari: four, Ibi: one, Gassol: 42, Jalingo: two, Bali: 12, Bauchi: nine, Yobe: two and Benue: one.
In an interview with newsmen, ALGON Chairman and Caretaker Committee Chairman of Jalingo Council, Abdulnasir Bobboji said Chairmen from seven local councils were at the Centre to receive the discharged persons to ensure that they get to their destinations safely.
He however appealed to the NGOs and wealthy individuals to complement the state government’s effort by assisting in providing protective items such as face mask and sanitizers as well as palliatives to the people to cushion the hardship some are experiencing during this trying period.
State Commissioner of Information and Re-orientation, Danjuma Adamu, officials of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Executive Secretary, Taraba state Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Aminu Jauro Hassan were among the Committee members who witnessed the event.
Meanwhile, the Committee had earlier inspected a building which under renovation at the NYSC Isolation Centre, where 100 beds are expected to be supplied by Access Bank, for the quarantine of suspected Corona cases.
