COVID-19: NGOs Reach out to Pastoral Groups, PWD with Palliatives in Taraba State.

Towards contributing its quota to the needy during the lockdown, the Fulbe Development and Cultural Organization (FUDECO) in collaboration with Foundation for Refugees Economic Empowerment (FREE) has distributed palliatives worth millions of naira to about 250 vulnerable households in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital and environs.

The items distributed include bags of rice, beans, vegetable oil, and other related food items.

Speaking during the distribution, Taraba state Chairperson of FUDECO, Hajiya Aisha Ardo said the palliatives were targeted at alleviating the food needs of vulnerable people that were likely to be affected by the COVID-19 lockdown.

According to her, the items were mobilised from donations made by patriotic citizens in society, adding that those covered by the organization include People With Disabilities (PWD), Pastoral Communities, Orphanage Homes and other less privileged members in the state capital and its environs.

Beneficiaries were also enlighten on the measures to be taken against COVID-19 by demonstrating hand washing process, correct ways of wearing face mask as well as observing social distancing.

Hajiya Aisha Ardo who is also a University lecturer, emphasized that the Corona Virus was real and that all hands must be on deck to stop the spread of the dreaded disease.

At Jongore and Sibre Pastoral Communities, the harders who expressed their happiness for being carried along said this is the first time an NGO was reaching to them with palliatives during the lockdown period.

Receiving the palliatives on behalf of his members, the state Chairman of People With Disabilities, Comrade Mohammed Sadiq expressed appreciation to the donors for coming to their aid at a point when they were completely lockdown.

Similarly, the operator of Alheri Orphanage in Jalingo, Hajiya Ummul Agwaru said the palliatives would go a long way in addressing the food shortages to the center.
