At the weekend, COVID-19 eventually made a formal and serious entry into Benue State, as the Governor Ortom’s wife, her Child and the Secretary to the State Govt, the Vice Chancellor, BSU have been reported testing positive to the pandemic.
Report says, it has killed a doctor on Sunday, Prof Godwin Achinge and one university security man.
Before now, people in the State were behaving skeptical and not observing the safety protocols despite a reported 73 cases in the State.
Dr Bem Ugoh however wrotes that Godwin Achinge was his childhood friend and classmate at Government college,makurdi.
‘we sat next to each other in a class of twenty two where he always came tops in examinations.He had a strong bias towards sciences which led to his study of human medicine. His determination was so overwhelming over the circumstances that attended his scholarship pursuit with excellence admist personal challenges.Goddy was dimunitive in physique but large in character and capacity.He was exceptionally brilliant and thoroughly bred in health professional discipline.His diagonistic analysis and specialisation gave relief to his patients who are in their thousands.He usually simplified cure for complicated diabetes and heart related ailments.
For this reason,he was visible through excellent performances that took him to the highest level of academic and administrative leadership.
This loss of a genius to a health virus that he would probably have been one of the research scientists for its curative vaccine is so devastating and ultimely.He has died as a victim of Covid 19 pandemic leaving behind scores of patients who lived hoping on his attention to their health conditions.
Prof.Achinges death is a multiple loss ,one to his christian and service community,two to his professional constituency but most profoundly his teeming patients who have died with him,like one said yesterday,this is also the end of my story.
His demise is an irredeemable loss that has created a huge vaccuum but as christians we believe that this is how far he was destined to come,covid 19 or not.
He did a perfect finishing of a brief but eventful lifetime
May he find justice for a permanent eternity with the lord
