The Trade Union Congress, Taraba state Chapter has elected new officials to run it’s affairs for the next three years.
The out-going State Chairman, Comrade Victor Olatunde thanked members for their support during his tenure.
“The support I received from my executive members in the last three years is immeasurable, we worked together as a team for the success and progress of TUC in the state”.
He commend the late State Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Peter Gambo, for his cordial working relationship.
“He was able to work with me and TUC under the auspice of the organized labour in the state. I hope both TUC and NLC will continue in that spirit.
He use the forum to appeal to Governor Darius Ishaku to assist TUC with a befitting Secretariat for the smooth running of its affairs.
He informed Delegates that the negotiations of the new minimum wage in the state had reached a concluding stage before the Corona Virus, COVID 19 pandemic.
“We believe that civil servants in the state will soon smile to their Banks.
Earlier in his remarks, President, Trade Union Congress, Com. Quadri Olalaye, represented by the Assistant General Secretary, Com. Kenneth Mokwenye, said the goal of gathering is to elect new officials.
“As you are aware, our members comprise senior staff in both public and private sectors, therefore, we must shun things that can bring down the reputation of the TUC in the state. We believe in dialogue in resolving issues with our employers and if there is any issue that is beyond the control of the state council, the National Secretariat should be called upon for necessary assistance.
He commend Governor Darius Ishaku for the cordial working relationship between the state government and the Organized labour.
“I want to also use this medium to appeal to the Governor that action be expedite in the implementation of the new minimum wage”.
“The Congress is disturbed by the spare of the insecurity in the country. As it stands, there is no safe place anymore in the country.
“We call on the Federal and State Governments to formulate policies that are capable of creating job opportunities. The axiom, An idle mind is the devil workshop.
According to him, it is no longer news that some Agencies and Parastatals of the Federal Government have become cesspools of corruption.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman Comrade Sule Abasu thanked members for giving him the opportunity to serve them.
“I assure you that all structures would be put in place to provide impetus of working as a team for the production of matured decision and quality delivery in our modus operandi.
“We will strive within the best of our efforts to desist from double standards by ensuring personal integrity, dedication to overall course and genuine fear of our creator.
He promised to do all at his disposal to be focused, resolute and determination in discharging his official duties.
The newly elected officials include, Com. Sule Abasu – Chairman, Com. Victor Olatunde – Give Chairman, Baba Hammanjulde – Secretary, Gidado Abubakar – Treasurer, Idris Adamu – Auditor, Isichei Blessing – Asst. Secretary, Isaac Lingmu – PRO and Mohammed Danjumoh – Financial Secretary. Others are, Hassan Otori – Trustee, Tukur Taji – Ex – Officio, Joan Adamu – Chairperson Women Commission and Dinatu Isiyaku – Secretary, Women Commission.
A minute silence was observed in honor of the late NLC state Chairman, Peter Gambo.
COVID 19 guidelines was also observed during the Conference.
