The chairman Nasarawa state Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) barrister Ayuba Wandai Usman has assured that his commission would conduct free, fair and credible local government election next year. Wandai who made the closure while receiving members of the correspondent chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa state council led by its chairman,Mr. Isaac Ukpoju at his office on Tuesday also called on a collaboration between members of the pen profession and the state electoral commission for optimum performance. He said members of the press have a a very vital role to play in ensuring free,fair and credible election in the country, hence the need for them to always report the exact happenings as according to him,”your reportage will make or Mar the society.” Wandai commended his commissioners and members of his staff for their support and urged them to maintain the tempo. He used the opportunity to announce a bye election in Tudun kids ward where a councilor was reported death and election was slated for October 22,2020 to replace the dead councilor. Speaking earlier, chairman correspondent chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)Mr.Isaac Ukpoju congratulated the chairman on his new appointment and assured the support the Union to the state electoral commission.Ukpoju used the opportunity to request for assistance from the commission to enable it face some of the challenges of the Union.He assured that journalists in the state would do all it could to ensure the success of the Commission.
