The Southern Nigerian Annual Conference Sessions,. United Methodist Church Nigeria, raised concerned over lack of payment of salaries to some Local Governments Workers and pensions in Taraba State.
The Conference in a Communique signed by Yakubu Clement, Sarostina Johnson and Benjamin Simon stated this shortly after the 39th session of the conference at McBride church,Jalingo.
“We call on Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku to as a matter of importance pay salaries and pensions owing workers in Taraba State”
“We also call on the Governor to open the UMCN Cathedral Church in Magami, Jalingo, which has been closed for over Five years”.
It disclosed that the conference has offered series of invitations to the agrived faction of the church to return back to the church for unity sake, but such invitations were turned down by the group and see no reason for the Cathedral Church to remain closed.
On the National scene, the conference noted with displeasure the rising level of Insecurity in the country, ranging from the activities of Boko Haram insurgency, Armed banditry and Kinnapings which makes top stories for year 2020.
It sympathize with Nigerians over the recession that is ravaging the country and pray for improvement on the economy of the nation.
The Conference called on the Church from charges to the conference level to buy and store grains so as to alleviate hunger in Nigeria.
On the issue of same sex marriage and sexuality it said:
“We believe that marriage is a sacred institution created by God himself from the beginning of creation. We understand and appreciate the Biblical teaching and the position of the book of Displine of the United Methodist Church in Nigeria regarding marriage”.
“We therefore condemned the context and concept of same sex marriage as being incompatible with Christian teachings”.
The Conference sympathize with people who lost their beloved ones and properties worth millions of Naira.
“We call on President Mohammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency respond to the plea of the #EndSARS protesters to bring lasting solution to the injustice in the country”.
