WURKUN COMMUNITY COMMENDED FOR COMING TOGETHER AS ONE ENTITY

The inhabitant Tribes in Taraba State and Nationwide have been called upon to emulate the Wurkun Community, by coming together as one despite various clans.

The Former State Chairman of the People Democratic Party, Hon. Victor Bala Kona made the call at the Launching of Wurkun Cultural Attaire in Jalingo.

“The Wurkun people are one of the major tribes in Taraba State, their decision to come together as one despite their clan differences, is highly commendable.

“They are tribe that can not be easily dropped due to their number. I call on other tribes to emulate the Wurkun people”.

He said that since the Wurkun people have decided to unite amongst themselves, there is need to support them.

” The Wurkun people have agreed to unite under one umbrella by launching one attire, such unity promote peacefull co – existence amongst themselves, other tribes and the nation, so we need to support them”.

On #EndSARS, he denied that Politicians are the cause, adding that it is program of the Youths.

“Youths should seek for their rights through peacefull means. Monies mean for development would now be used for renovations or rebuilding damage structures.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa, describe the occasion as a bold step towards providing Unity, Understanding and peacefull co – existence amongst its diverse unique identity as Wurkuns.

“The Wurkun identity is very unique and enigmatic both at home and in the diaspora.

“My message to all of us is simple, let us unite, there is only one Wurkun not two by any inclination or standard. The idea of Kullung and Piya dichotomy is too cheap as an attempt to weeken our unity and power in whatever we sought to achieve Politically, Socially, Economically and otherwise.

“We must think of the next coming generations of the Wurkun people, United we stand, divided we beg or fall – he said.

He encouraged them to go to school, adding that it is only Education that can give them the opportunity to compete and excel in life.

He said he have initiated a community security outfit and influence deployment of soldiers to fight criminals in various communities of Wurkun people.

“I have equally provided assistance on the sanitization and awareness campaign on the effect of the spread of COVID 19 pandemic in our communities”.

“I want to call on our political leaders to bring development to our area (Karim Lamido Local Government Area), the heart of Wurkun land”.

He pointed out that since its creation in 1976, it has no access road, electricity and portable drinking water and urged sons and daughters of the land to think and initiate policies that would bring development to the land.

“I also want to use this opportunity to call on the younger generation to try and learn Wurkun language not minding whether it is Kullung or Piya, if the language becomes extinct, then our identity too will fade away.

He disclose that the Cultural Attaire will mark a milestone in their efforts towards a more United Wurkun people and identity.

Earlier, the National President, Wurkun Community Development Association, Ezra Haruna thanked Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku for his contributions to the Wurkun people as their Grand patron.

“It may interest you to note that Gombe State is the second to Taraba State in terms of the demographic data of the Wurkun people in Nigeria.

He added that Wurkun people are also found in Bauchi, Adamawa, Venue, Plateau and Kano States.

The occasion featured Wurkun Traditional dances and was witnessed by Wurkun people both at home and in diaspora.
