Defection Galore: Options Before Orogu’s PDP In Nasarawa

By Gaaden Puun

Rather than face the gale of defections of high ranking members staring his face, the Nasarawa State factional Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Francis Orugo is taking his blame game to the doorstep of the party’s founding fathers in the state.
The current executive council is facing a record breaking imposition challenges as majority of party’s faithfuls are fleeing into the ruling APC.
This includes his ex colleagues in the State House of Assembly: Speaker Mohammed Ahmed, Hon. Toni Obande, Hon. Mohammed Ibaku, Hon. John Esewu, still counting.
The People Democractic Party, PDP in Nasarawa state has continue to suffer unabated defection.
This according to findings, is largely due to the bullying nature of the Hon. Francis Orugo’s led leadership. At the wake of the last year’s PDP state Congress, Orogu had slammed a suspension on three key PDP leaders in the state. Two former ministers, Sen. Solomon Ewuga and Hon Musa Elayo and the party’s Deputy Governorship candidate, Hon. Mohammed Onawo
and ex federal lawmaker were affected.
The undemocratic manner in which local government congresses were conducted in Wamba, Akwanga, Awe, and… leading to court cases down to the defection galore being hit by party are both confirmation of the fears of the party’s elders.
Party leaders had last year warned of a high handedness of Hon. Orohu’s style of leadership.
Barely a month after the purported victory that returned him back into office, dozens including high ranking members of the party have dumped the PDP for APC.
They include: the ex Representative of Lafia/Obi, Hon. Dr. Joseph Kigbu, ex Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Muhammed and the incumbent member representing Doma south, Hon. Joseph Usman Osewu.
Others including Orogu’s Ex colleague lawmakers: Hon. Toni Obande, Hon. Baba Ibaku, Alhaji (Dr) Bala Tafida, the Leader of the PDP Tiv Forum, Hon. Peter Igbache amongst others.
The most annoying thing is the lackadasaical approach of the Chairman and his co-traveller, Sen. Suleiman Adokwe’s deliberate shut down all known channels of recouncialation with agrieved leaders.
It’s feared that the party may lost more members if the attitudes are not checked by the national Secretariat of the party in Abuja.
While the Orugo’s are bent chasing everyone away, the Sidi Bako’s camp is seeking truce before the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party for reddress.
The Sidi Bako’s camp who is enjoying the backing two ex ministers: Sen Solomon Ewuga and Hon. Musa Elayo, two ex Chairmen: Alhaji Yusuf Aitogo and Chief Yunana Iliya and dozens of party leaders is seeking for reddress.
The PDP high power hirarchy must act fast by revalidating it recouncialation mechinaries if the scenario of the 2019 Zamfara expirience is any lesson to avoid.
They want the people’s accepted congresses to be ordered and the preferred candidates recognized against any impositions.
Alternatively, the PDP could elect to forget Nasarawa State for now.
Investigation in Nasarawa State revealed that there are more dozens who are perfecting their defection should the court process delayed.
