Expectant Mother Hacked To Dead By Suspected Fulanis In Nasarawa State

Gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen have again attacked and killed a pregnant woman in Abebe village, Agaza district of Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa state.

Abebe, where the leader of the Tiv people of Nasarawa state and President Tiv Development Association, TIDA, Comrade Peter Ahemba hails from, was attacked midnight of Saturday, leading to the displacement of inhabitants within the community and neighbouring villages.
The gunmen, who were said to be armed with sophisticated weapons, opened fire on the villagers and caused pandemonium as both men, women and children scampered for safety.
Reacting to the incident, the TIDA President, Comrade Peter Ahemba alleged that the attacks and killing of Tiv people of Nasarawa state in the last two months was targeted at chasing them out of the state by some forces, reiterating his appeal to the state governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule not to allow the planned annihilation of the Tiv people succeed under his watch as governor.
He condemned the killings and destruction of the Tiv people and urged any group or any ethnic nationality with grievances against the Tiv people to involve civilised ways of addressing the issues rather than taking undue advantage of the insecurity situation in the southern part of the state to achieve an agenda that is detrimental to the unity, peace and security of the state.
“His Excellency, Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, mean well for the state.
He is doing his best to protect lives and property of the citizens but it appears some people are bent on sabotaging his efforts”
“He is a man of peace and we trust he will not succumb to the pressure to allow the annihilation of the Tiv people under his watch”
The Tiv leader alleged that the Abebe village has been under threat of attack by some farmers of Alago extraction from Obi town in Obi Local Government Area of the state whose efforts to forcefully takeover some hectares of farmland belonging to the Tiv farmers of the community has have met stiff resistance.
“A similar attack was carried out against this same community early last year and four persons were brutally murdered. The said Alago farmers in Obi were suspected and arrested by Police but released few days later due to what might have been pressure from the powers that be”
“Now there was another threat a few days ago by these same Alago farmers that the people of Abebe village will be taught a bitter lesson for resisting to surrunder the said hectres of farmland to them and few days after the threat, the latest attack has been carried out”
According to him, it was difficult to exonerate the said farmers from Obi of the attacks on this community, calling on the Police to reopen investigation into the matter with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book in the interest of justice.
