The secretary Nasarawa state Independent Electoral Commission ( NASIEC) Barr, Muhammad Opu has been kidnapped by the unknown gunmen. According to a press statement by the Police public Relations Officer,( PPRO) Nasarawa state police command,ASP Ramhan Nansel said the yet to be identified gunmen numbering about five stormed the resident of the secretary, Nasarawa state Independent Electoral Commission ( NASIEC) Barr. Muhammad Opu in Baking Rijiya village along Lafia- Shendam road around 11.45 pm on Tuesday night and kidnapped him to an unknown destination. The statement read in part; On 25/8/2021 at about 0145 hrs, a complaint was lodged at C Division Lafia that on 24/8/2021 at about 23.45 pm unknown gunmen numbering about five stormed the resident of NASIEC Secretary located at Baking Rijiya village and kidnapped him” The PPRO explained that on receiving the information, the commissioner of police, CP Adesina Soyemi immediately led a detachment of the police personnel from the command’s Anti- kidnapping unit, police mobile Force,counter terrorism unit, and other tactical units, to the scene.where he is suspected to have been held captive by his abductors. ASP Nansel further stated that the Deputy Commissioner of police in-charg of Criminals investigation departments ( CID) has also been directed to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter in order to rescue the victim and arrest the perpetrators. He therefore appealed to members of the public to assist the police with useful information that will help to arrest the criminal elements and rescue him. It would be recalled that NASIEC had announced that the Commission will conduct local government election across the 13 local government Areas of the state on October 6th for chairmanship or councilorship.
