More than 500 communities in Nasarawa state are to benefit from clean drinking water by the year 2023. Governor Abdullahi Sule who disclosed this during a workshop on water, Sanitation and health ( WASH) at the Aliyu Akwe banquet hall government house Lafia also expressed sadness over a report that the North Central zone of the country has the highest case of open defecation in Nigeria and called for a change for the better. The Governor who was represented at the occasion by his deputy. Dr Emmanuel Akabe further lamented that one out of two open defecation happens in Nasarawa state. He commended president Muhammadu Buhari for selecting youths in each local government Area of the state for three months for the programme in the state. The Governor also called on the participants to pay more attention, make contributions and use the knowledge gathered during the workshop in their various areas of Assignments… Also Speaking, Minister of water resources, Engineer Suleiman Adamu said about 46million people defeacates in the public in Nigeria. Adamu further called for the flag-off of the programme in all the 13 local government Areas of the state to ensure compliance from the grassroots levels. ” I wish to commend the Nasarawa state government for the declaration of state of emergency on the open defeacation in the state. Speaking earlier, Nasarawa state Commissioner for Agriculture, Water resources and rural development, Professor Alabama Otaki said the programme which commenced in 2018, While Nasarawa state didn’t participate, but commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for releasing the sum of #250million as counterpart funds for state to participate. The commissioner commended president Muhammadu Buhari always supporting the state during the federal government’s programme.adding that with the flag-off of the programme, Nasarawa state is now among the 26 states in the federation that have commenced the programme, with 57 local government Areas across the country participating excluding Nasarawa state.
