Pandemonium As Vigilante Arrest Fulani Militia In Benue IDPs Camp

By Our Correspondent

Benue was recently thrown into ba state pandemonium following the arrest of a suspected Fulani militia in one of the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs camps in Guma Local Government Area of Benue state by members of the local vigilante group in the area.

The suspected militia was said to have sneaked into the IDPs camp in the area at the late hour of Thursday when a member of the vigilante on duty noticed his suspicious movement and raised the alarm, leading to his arrest.

A member of the vigilante alleged that the suspected militia was on a mission to survey the IDP camp with a view to subsequently launching an attack.

Reacting to the development, a community leader, who spoke with our Correspondent but preferred to be anonymous alleged that the suspect was out to wreak havoc on the camp in the ongoing agenda to takeover Benue land.

He maintained that the arrest of the suspected militia has further confirmed that “the ethnic cleansing against the people of Benue state by the powers that be, was far from been over, calling on the international community to come to the rescue of the state.

“This is the same way it happened when the Fulani herdsmen attacked and killed several IDPs in Abagana camp in the state. The Fulani militia want to repeat that again. Government and the security Operatives must intensify security surveillance to prevent the ugly experience at Abagana IDPs Camp”

Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Emmanuel Shior, who confirmed the incident to newsmen said the state government was working in synergy with the security agencies to ensure security of the IDPs.

All efforts to contact the Benue state Police Commissioner proved abortive as he was said to be out for an official engagement when our reporter visited the command headquarters.
