The National Boundary Commission ( NBC) says it has out in place mechanisms to check mate the incessant boundary disputes between Nasarawa and Benue boundaries in order to bring to an end the lingering disputed between the two states.
Director – general National Boundary Commission ( NBC) Alhaji Adamu Adaji who stated this in a meeting between the representative of the Nasarawa and Benue state government at the Ministry for local government chieftaincy Affairs and community development Lafia also said the commission would look into the issue with special reference to the 1916,1919 and 1924 instrument of the federal government. The Director general boundary Commission further explained that his Commission would do all it could to ensure that Justice is done.
He appealed to the two states to continue to live in peace with one another with a view of ensuring that they don’t do anything that would undermine the work of the commission. Pointing out that the federal government under president Muhammadu Buhari has put machinery in place to ensure peace and tranquility between the two states and therefore called on the read rulers, religious leaders,youth organization and other critical stakeholders in the state to ensure the maintenance of peace and tranquility in their dormains.
Speaking earlier, Nasarawa state deputy Governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe while declaring the meeting open called for peace and synergy between the two states, Akabe further recalled that there is a very strong relationship between the two states since when they were both in Northern Nigeria, Benue plateau, Benue and Nasarawa state, hence the need for such cordial relationship to continue.
On his part, Deputy Governor of Benue state, Engineer Benson Ebonu while commending the two states for the show of love, mutual respect and understanding, also called on the two states not to do anything capable of breaching the existing peace amongst them. Engineer Ebonu therefore advocated for the inclusion of youths during the meetings to enable them contributes their quota to the meetings.
He also commended the National Boundary Commission for their roles in ensuring that the right things are done. Participants at the meeting also called for proper boundary demarcation between the two states to bring to an end the lingering boundary crises between the two states.
