High Level Women Advocates – HILWA- Plateau State, a Non – Governmental, Non – Political as well as Non – Religious body. In this edition, she writes to identify with this year’s International Day of Peace, being observed by the United Nations General Assembly.
Excerpts:
Every year, the 21st of September, reawaken the global community on the need to reflect on PEACE.
This year, the Theme for the International Day of Peace is: “ *Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world* .”
And for us in Plateau State, this theme resonate as the event of the recent past demands that we seek for Healing and Peace to reign in the Land.
Our Organization, High Level Women Advocates – *HILWA* – a Non – Governmental, Non – Political as well as Non – Religious body, identifies with this year’s theme as the United Nations General Assembly urges Nations and Communities to devote this day to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.
There is no doubt that Plateau State has had its fair share of conflicts which has claimed lives and property, but we must also acknowledged the proactiveness of the State Government which has adopted measures, through the Plateau State Building Agency in building bridges of peace across Communities in the State.
Noteworthy, also is the personal dedication and commitment of the Plateau State First Lady and founder of SWITCH Foundation, Mrs Regina Lalong, for her foresight in initiating the SILICON VALLEY, which when it finally takes off in Plateau State, will open up areas of comparative advantage that offer opportunities for our teaming youths to meaningfully and constructively engage themselves in productive ventures.
High Level Women Advocates, in line with its mandate will continue to serve as a platform that champion the cause of women and children who are most times affected by conflicts.
As we observe this year’s International Day of Peace, let us support the advancement of women in society through political and economic initiatives, actively oppose violence against women and girls in our community and promote the elimination of discrimination in the workplace.
And as part of activities marking the International Day of Peace, High Level Women Advocates, will be reaching out to communities, women organizations and above all, crowning the Plateau State First Lady and Founder SWITCH Foundation, Mrs Regina Lalong, as the PEACE AMBASSADOR of Plateau State.
*Let us Think and Act Plateau* .
And Let Healing and Peace Reign in the Land.
