No fewer than two people are reported killed over the weekend when yet to be identified assailants stormed a Durbi Village of Shere District in Jos East Local Government area shooting sporadically.
According to the eye witnesses, the incident started around 11Am on Friday when one of their youths went to pluck some olives, where he had an encounter with some Gunmen.
The gunmen we’re said to have chased him and he ran back home to inform the community about the incident, where the community mobilised to the hills and engaged the Gunmen in shoot out resulting in some death and others sustainjng some degrees of injuries.
Those killed are Late Peter Inyam and Arin Kaze.
They told our reporter who was on ground to ascertain the situation. The gunmen then started escaping from the hills and in the process,they shot two people in to death,this morning again,we heard some gun shots and we came out to see what was the problem again and we sited two people on a motorcycle firing gunshots,we then started chasing them to Tilden Fulani whereby we arrested and handed them to the Vigelante before they were taken to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Toro Local Area Government of Bauchi state.
There was no security Agents on the scene apart from the local vigilantes and hunters at the time our reporter visited the scene until around 9:38am, before some security personnel arrived the scene,they include the operation flush II,Anti Kidnapping Unit of Bauchi state and the Men of Nigeria Police from Angware Division.
The Security personnel were led by the two divisional Police officers and the staff sergeant of the Nigeria Army,they interfaced briefly with the Community and zoomed off without visiting the actual scene of the incident.
The Men of special forces of Operation Safe Haven stormed the area around 10Am with a drone and immediately swung into action and climbed the hills where the Gunmen are hiding to launch the attacks.
Consoling with the bereaved families,the Executive Chairman of Jos East LGA,Hon. Yakubu Izang Ezekiel, through his Deputy,Hon. Ishaku Ayuba Ajang said the local government has been throwing into mourning,as you can see,I’m here this morning, onbehalf of the Council Chairman,to console the people and ascertained the level of damage,we are deeply sad with the loss of two gallant youths who were shot dead by the unknown gunmen.As you can see,we have mobilised the security men especially the men of the Operation Safe Haven, Yesterday,the D.P.O was here and this morning.
If you look at the geographical location of Jos East LGA,we share boarder with Toro Local Government area and Tafawa Balewa LGA of Bauchi state.
Jos North,Barkin Ladi and Mangu LGAs of Plateau state,we will synergize with them and ensure that we form a security network so that we can protect lives and property of our citizens,which is the major responsibility of government.
He equally charged all the Communities in Jos East to ensure they involve deeply in the state police like Neighborhood Watch, Vigilantes and Hunters.
According to Ajang, the ratio of conventional Security agents to the population of the country is grossly inadequate.
Durbi Village is about three kilometers from Jos and two kilometers away from Angware,the Headquarters of Jos East LGA.
Hon. Bitrus Kaze,former member,House of Representatives hails from there. Some bullet shells were picked on ground.
There is no Telecommunication network, motorable road,Electricity. Some of these factors may have been responsible for the late arrival of the security personnel.
Bulus Inyam,is the Youth leader of Durbi. He made an appeal to the Government to come to the rescue of the community and the entire Shere West to provide GSM mast and other infrastructures .
The Police Public Relations Officer,Plateau state Command,ASP Ubah Gabriel said he will get back to our reporter if he put a call to a Divisional Police officer,as of time of filling this report,went he called for the second time,he didn’t respond to the calls.
They told our reporter who was on ground to ascertain the situation, that the gunmen then started escaping from the hills and in the process,they shot two people in to death, this morning again.
“we heard some gun shots and we came out to see what was the problem again and we sited two people on a motorcycle firing gunshots,we then started chasing them to Tilden Fulani whereby we arrested and handed them to the Vigelante before they were taken to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Toro Local Area Government of Bauchi state”.

Meanwhile, the operation flush II, Anti Kidnapping Unit of Bauchi state and the Men of Nigeria Police from Angware Division led by the two divisional Police officers and the staff sergeant of the Nigeria Army have visited the area and held a brief interface with the Community and zoomed off without visiting the actual scene of the incident.
Report gathered that Men of special forces of Operation Safe Haven have equally stormed the area around 10Am on Saturday and immediately swung into action I’m search if the killers.
