The greater Tommorow football club of Lafia has won this year’s Mailafia Unity Cup Competition .
The Lafia boys who defeated the police machine football club of Lafia at the final of the competition which took place at Government secondary school Daddere football pitch by a lone goal went home with the sum of #500,000 .
Before teaching the final of the competition, the champions, greater Tommorow of Lafia defeated bulldozer of Agyaragu by alone goal, While the police machine on the other hand defeated Ogene football club of Doma by 4 goals to one.
The final of this year’s Mailafia peace and unity cup competition had in attendance, the chief coach of Nigeria under 20 team, Ladan Bosso, the coordinator, North Central , Nigerian Football Federation ( NFF) and Chairman Niger State Football Associations, Yusuf Fresh, and Chairman Nasarawa state Football Association (NFA) Muhammad Alkali amongst others.
Speaking to journalists at the end of the competition, the sponsor of the annual competition, Chief Supretendent of police ( CSP) Mailafia Yakubu Agabi said the aim of the competition which is the fifth in the series is not only foster Unity amongst the diverse ethnic groups in the southern senatorial district of the state, but almost to tackle youth restiveness as well as creating employment opportunities amongst the youth in the southern senatorial district of the state.
Mailafia further explained that most of those players who performed credibly well were selected for camping to join some National teams in the country and send out of the country to join European and la Liga teams in order to compete favourably with their European counterparts.
He therefore commended the organizers, officials and referees for living upto the expectation and urged them to do more in future communications.
Also Speaking, a sports lover who came all the way from Bauchi state to witness the event since incept, Barrister Hussaini Umar commended CSP Mailafia Agabi for a job well done and urged him to do more.
Barrister Umar who is the title holder of Maji Kiran Bauchi also commended the organizers and all those who made the occasion success.
The competition came to an end with the presentation of trophy to the winter, Greater tommorow football club of Lafia, while police team which came second got #300,000 and the third place went to Ogene football club of Doma who got #200,000.
Other consolation prizes include the best goalkeeper went to the police machine goalkeeper. Prize of highest goal scorer went to Abdumumuni from Awe selected amongst other prizes.
