The Nasarawa state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress has rejected the partial implementation of N30,000.00 minimum wage.
State chairman of the Union, Comrade Yusuf Iya who spoke with Journalists in Lafia says the implementation of N30,000 minimum wage to only officers on grade level 01- 6 negates the procedures of the implementation of minimum wage as directed by the federal government. Iya further explained that the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) would not succumb to pressure from any angle for them to shed the proposed planned as ultimutum has already been given to the government to either fully implement the minimum wage or to embark on total strike to press home their demands. The state NLC chairman also stated that government refused to implement promotion and other entitlement to the state workers, a situation that made lives unbearable to the state civil servants. He called on Governor Abdullahi A. Sule to as a matter of urgency implement the new minimum wage as announced by the Federal government as well as to implement promotions as well as annual increments. The NLC chairman appealed to the state workers to wait for further directives from the Union. Meanwhile, medical workers in Nasarawa state has on Monday embarked on indefinite strike to press home their demands from the government. Our correspondent who monitored the strike in Lafia, the state capital reports that most of the government hospitals in the state were closed as patients were been sent away by the hospital’s staff, while private hospitals were making money as they were receiving patients that were sent away from the government’s hospitals. Doctors and other medical workers in the state were demanding amongst other things promotions, annual increaments, hazard allowances amongst other demands. All efforts to see the Authorities of Dalhatu Araf Specialist hospital and other government hospitals in the state proved abortive as they were said to be attending meetings with government officials at government house.
