The member representing Langtang North/Langtang South Federal Constituency of Plateau State Hon. Beni Lar has flag off Empowerment programmes for women and youths in her Constituency.
She said the Constituency which is the only one in Northern Nigeria has produced a female representative for three consecutive times deserved the best of her.
She stated this during the flag off ceremony held in Mabudi Langtang South, Plateau State at the weekend .
“This is the only Constituency in the whole of Northern Nigeria that has produced a woman for the third time into the National Assembly. I never new I will be representing Langtang North and South in the House of Representatives for third time.
“This constituency deserve the best, I count it as a privilege, my success in this office is your success and that is why I have to listen to the voice of my people. I have been elected into the National Assembly is to be a voice for the people of this Constituency.”
According to her, as a legislator who is familiar with her duty for almost 15 years in the National Assembly, the voice of her Constituency has been heard very clear over time with calls for various interventions.
Lar promised that she will continue to pushed in the Green Chamber towards ensuring that the Langtang North and South constituency function as expected
She said the journey which started in 2007 where she was first elected into the National Assembly where she served as the Chairperson House Committee on Women Affairs to ensure that the issue of gender was brought to the front burner of national discussed.
“It has been an interesting journey from 2007 when I was elected by the good people of Langtang North and South and I was made the Chairperson House Committee on Women Affiars. The issue of women through the gender memoranda was brought forward and I led 40,000 women to the then Justice Uweh Committee to seek and lobby for more 35% gender affirmative action for women.”
“We are still lobbying and by the grace of God the gender opportunity bill will soon be passed. And through the constitutional amendment that we are hoping to make, women will have 100 seat minimal in the Constitution added to the 350 already in the Constitution and that will bring about stronger involvement for women.”
She added, ” In a democracy, every voice must be heard, and that is why different groups are represented here today. We have the traditional Council, we have the elders, we have the road transport Union been represented, Cultural Association, physically challenge persons too been represented market women amongst others.”
She said the event is for her to listen to the concerns of her constituents even with the efforts so far made in influencing so many employment to her constituents. “I am here today to listen to you people, what are the issues that is disturbing you people in this constituency. I know that a lot of youths have been employed and we will continue to do so,” she assured them.
The Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State Hon. Joshua Ubandoma Laven said the constituents are proud of her landmark achievements for the people of Langtang North and South.
He pointed that the Lawmaker has been keeping touched with the Constituency anytime opportunity come her way to brief them on her stewardship while in the National Assembly.
“This is the third time she is organizing a constituency briefing, we had the last one just before the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The Chairman recalled thus, “Last year by this time you shared so many fertilizers to our farmers aside the distribution of rice as palliatives to your constituents and you cap it all with a constituent briefing.
“Your achievements are very visible for everyone to see, feel and touched, in terms of human capital development, you have given you all by ensuring that a lot of our youths who are today in Ministries, Agencies and Parastatals, the military and Paramilitary are products of your personal sacrifices. You gave raised so many young men whom some of us are part of your array of army; I must commend you for always remembering your people,” Laven stated
