Apparently disturbed by the well-being pronounced quackery within the health sector in Nigeria, the team of medical experts have commenced verification of certificates and licences of medical practitioners across the country.
In Plateau state, the personal of the National Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria, NACHPN, Federal ministry of health and the health care Management board have stormed the screening centres to carry out the exercise.
Our correspondent reports that the exercise which will last for six days beginning with the plateau north senatorial zone was very promising, as many health workers thronged Collage of Health, Zawan, Jos south local government area, where the exercise is being carried out.
The chairman of the National Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria, NACHPN, Comrade Bugama Haruna Gokir told Journalists in an interview that the exercise is going to be thorough based on the recommendations of the Senate committee and the House of Representatives committee on health.
According to him, at the first day one of the exercise, no suspicious certificate or license has been discovered, but stresses that, in an event where any of such is discovered in the cause of the exercise, a letter would be written to the employer of such persons for necessary actions.
He said the six days screening exercise is to cover the three senatorial zone of the state, beginning with the northern zone.
Also speaking, the team leader of the verification exercise, Mustapha Ajini Kaka, said the “operation show your certificate” is a national call with the desired aim of reducing to the bearest minimum the issue of quackery in the health sector.
He maintained that, the over increasing number of quackery among the Physicians, Nurses and the Community health workers in the country has attained a worrisome stage, insisting that, at the end of the exercise, if any one is found to be operating with fake certificate or fake license, his or her name would be sent to the employer for necessary actions.
He however called on all health workers to comply to enable them complete the screening within the stipulated time.
